Information about independent bookmaking
With the technology available today it is possible to publish your own books to a degree never seen before.
Guerilla bookmaking is bookmaking that circumvents the traditional
publishing process rather than working within the publishing industry
system.
It can be about doing it yourself and having control over exactly what
form your work takes, rather than having to put up with other people's
ideas of how your work should be embodied.
The only problem is that it can be a bit confusing putting things together.
- What are the usual 'publishing information' pages at the start of a book?
- How do I get permission to use someone else's picture or words?
- Can I put a bar code on my book, or get an ISBN? (Did you know ISBNs are free in New Zealand?)
- How can I bind my book?
This site tries to answer these questions, so you can get on with it.
Happy bookmaking!
The term was coined by Ed
Hutchins of the site Artist's Books to describe
“efforts to take the book arts to the street and place it in the
hands of everyday people.”
